Egypt still dominates Arab production

Of the 5,145 Arab titles in the catalog, Egypt produces 3,259 — about 63% of everything the region makes, confirming its historic title as the “Hollywood of the East.” Kuwait, Syria and Lebanon follow at a distance, while Saudi Arabia is climbing fast after reopening cinemas in 2018.

A boom after a lost decade

Arab cinema had its golden age from the 1950s through the 1970s, then a clear decline in the 1990s. The streaming era changed everything: the 2010s produced more titles than any prior decade, and the current decade has already passed it before reaching the halfway mark — more than 2.5× the output of the 1990s.

What Arab cinema makes
